My New Stethoscope

I bought a new stethopcope because I lost my old one.  Actually, I thought I lost it.  I ordered the pink breast cancer awareness edition of the Littmann Classic II.  They make awesome stethoscopes.  Anyway, the color was totally wrong and misrepresented online.  I am happy to say that 3M replaced the tubing for free and Allheart.com gave me a $10 credit, which covered the shipping. Yay!  Great, honest companies. Go buy from them!

I did speak to 3M and they said they have fixed the problem with the color. Some companies may have the old one in stock, but the new ones should be just fine. I replaced my tubing with Pearl Pink.

Message Boards - No Electricity Required

This is the board I made from some dandy little scrapbooking supplies for my office door. My students write me notes and leave me "presents"on it.
I think its cute! The ambulance is wooden and I glued magnets on it.  Sometimes the notes are more private, so there is a magnetic note pad on there so they can tear it off and put it under my door.

eFlowers from the Hubby

My husband sends me flowers :)

My husband works outdoors and takes time to send me flowers. I think it is sweet, besides, they last forever this way.

My grandmother is a snake slayer!

My grandmother lives in an assisted living home and she was with another lady outside this morning. She noticed a snake close to them so she was the hero and killed it with her cane! I just thought that was funny. I never expected that from her!

Have a good day everyone!

Eggs!

I wash my eggs. It is said that if you leave the bloom (protective covering that dries on the egg when the chicken lays it) on the egg, it will last longer. I refrigerate mine, so I'm washing them.

I use warm water. If you use water colder than the egg, it can actually draw bacteria into the egg. I also use a potato brush to remove any visible dirt that doesn't rinse right away.

Make Your Oil Bottle Pop with Polka Dots!

I decorated my oil bottle using black self-stick vinyl. The D was cut using Doodletype at 1 3/4" and the polka dots were made using Plantin Schoolbook circle cut at 3/4". You can make it from any glassware such as cake plates or trifle bowls.

I have olive oil in mine, but you can use the bottle to store your dish soap, but add a little water to it so it will pour out.

Naked Larry Update

Naked Larry is doing much better! He has most all his feathers back and is slowly becoming more attractive to the ladies. There are 3 hens that are hanging out with him now.  He contines to be kicked off the roost in the coop, but seems happy perched on the side of the nesting box.

Kayaking

So, I took some friends of mine kayaking this morning and I think we all really enjoyed it. No matter how many times I go, I find something interesting every trip. This little turtle was helping himself to a fresh drink of water.  He just crawled off after we got past him. He really didn't seem to mind us at all.

The Big Apple... literally

This is the biggest apple I have ever seen. I could not eat it all at once! Where in the world do they grow them this big?

Scrapping my Deep Sea Fishing Trip

This picture turned out really dark. I love my new phone, but I'm really NOT impressed with the camera! It just does not take good pictures, but maybe you will get the idea. I've been scrapbooking our deep sea fishing trip for quite a while now. I really need to finish it. I have had it on my F.R.E.D. (For Really Easy Designing available through Aptus Designs) for over a month! I'm thinking about stitching the pictures to the page with a tan thread. I haven't experimented with thread yet. Nothing on the page is glued down, just stuck it on there to try to get some ideas. I need a muse!

SNAKE!!!

The other day I was going outside to check the chickens and gather eggs. My hens were not happy. So, I walked inside the coop and there was a 5 foot long chicken snake eating my eggs!!! I am not kidding. It was 5 whole feet in length! I have no idea how many he ate, but I was not happy that he was there. My hero, aka my husband, took care of the snake for me, but I am extra cautious now when I walk out there. I'm just glad he didn't get one of my chicks!

Sorry, I didn't take a picture of it. I was totally disgusted.

Scrapbook Pics of Strangling Your Best Friend

I scraplifted this page but I love it! It is certainly one of my favorites! You know, scraplifting is one of the highest compliments a scrapbooker can give!

I used a silver pen to color the star. I traced boarder paper for the background behind graduation and the stickers came as a set. Eyelets were used on the picture corners with a Crop-A-Dial. It was a pretty quick page, but I love the way it turned out. Especially with us clowning around on such a serious matter!

Prescribed Burning

This is what my husband loves to do! He's a certified prescribe burn manager. He performs prescribed burns "controlled burns" and loves it. I like this picture because I know after the fire cools it brings new life to the forest!

Cogongrass... watch out!

This is Cogongrass, a highly invasive species that is in full bloom. It takes over pastures and lawns and livestock cannot eat it. Please read about it and help control it before it destroys our native species!

Painting a Glass Pitcher

This is one of my FAVORITE paintings! I love to oil paint so I though I would share one with you. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to paint a glass vase/pitcher, but it turned out nicely! I would love to do another one like this, but with daisies in it with some twigs. I love daisies and it would be a nice touch to liven up a room. Don't you think? Anyway, I'll try to share more later.

Kayaking from Big Creek to Whitewater then to the Pea River

So this is what I was facing last weekend.
LOVED IT!
I went kayaking and was thankful that the weather was warm because I got a little soaked! No, I didn't turn over. I just got splashed. A few of my family members went together and my sister had a snake try to get into her kayak. Lets just say she wasn't very happy. We are trying to teach my son and nephew the ins and outs of navigation. In our area, you always want to head for the deeper water, that will appear faster, and with less ripples/whitewater than the surrounding water. Sometimes, you just have to guess though!

Naked Larry and the trials of being a chicken.

This is Naked Larry. A stray dog caught him and plucked him. Three hens weren't so lucky. Now Naked Larry roosts in a kennel. The other chickens don't like him because they are extremely vain and don't really care for nudist chickens. He's growing new feathers and maybe it won't be long before he is beautiful in their eyes again. One good thing came out of his plucking... a friend of my husbands tied fishing lures from his feathers that were picked up in the yard.

Naked Larry is extremely spoiled now. He was rocked to sleep, eats whatever he wants, and follows us around like a little puppy. We love him!

Pitcher Plants

Here's another shot of the pitcher plants. They are so pretty. This is just part of the patch.

Pitcher Plants

I love looking at these. They are pitcher plants... carnivorous plants that eat bugs. I'm thankful that they eat love bugs!!! We photograph them every year and try to preserve them in our own little nature habitat. The patch has really grown since we discovered them!
